Message from the Head of Service

Lindsay Watson.jpg

Welcome to Nightingale Home and Hospital Service. We are a specialist centre that works in partnership with key agencies to offer appropriate intervention to vulnerable students with medical and mental health needs in a supportive and structured setting.

We work with students from both the primary and secondary phase that are referred from mainstream schools, medical and psychological practitioners for various reasons.

Our focus is on the individual student and ensuring that they are able to regain their rightful place in society and the wider world.

We offer: home tuition, small group/one-to-one tuition at the centre (up to 15 hrs) and tuition at the Hospital School Room. Teachers and teaching assistants are well qualified and have experience of teaching in mainstream school as well as within specialist settings. The Nightingale Centre has two classroom spaces and access to outdoor space. Both classrooms within The Nightingale Centre have access to computer facilities and provide space where teaching can be adapted according to student needs e.g. bean bags, partitioned spaces, one-to-one teaching space and group space.

Education is provided for students from Reception to Year 11, while they are in New Cross Hospital, whether they are in hospital for a short stay or a longer admission. There is a purpose built schoolroom on the children’s ward, staffed by a qualified teacher and teaching assistant. The teacher will liaise with the students own school in order to personalise their learning and limit disruption to their education. Students attend sessions in the schoolroom, or if necessary are taught at the bedside.

Students have access to a range  of academic and vocational qualifications, as well as a creative curriculum. We are supported by: specialist teachers and teaching assistants, Lawnswood Integrated Therapy Service, and other agencies such as CAMHS and Wolverhampton Connexions.

We are proud of the service that we provide at The Nightingale Centre and hope that you will have a positive experience when working with us.
